How to Clean and Store a Personal Massager by Material

Why does a personal massager need washing after every use?

Because whatever is on it after use is still there next time. Sexual Health St Helens (NHS) says bacteria, viruses and other particles can remain on an intimate device after use and spread infection; its rule is to clean each one after every use and check the packaging for the maker's instructions.

Washing is enough, though. The CDC's cleaning guidance separates cleaning, which "removes most germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces", from disinfecting, which kills germs; it says cleaning regularly is enough in most situations, and that disinfection products never go on skin. The job is to wash, not to disinfect.

What is the best way to clean a personal massager after use?

Warm water, mild unscented soap, half a minute, full dry: before the first use and after every one.

1. Switch it off and unplug it.
2. Check the water rating. In the product page's own words: "Waterproof IPX6" for Pulse, "WaterProof IPX7" for Dive+, "Water Resistant" for Edge. Rated for running water means under the tap; anything else gets a soft cloth wrung out in warm soapy water, then one wrung out in clean water.
3. Rinse straight away under warm, not hot, water, before lube dries on it. One Glide reviewer: it "gets cleaned within seconds of water usage unlike other lubes which stays on after washing also".
4. Wash with mild, unscented soap for about 30 seconds, with your hands, working into grooves and seams. Unscented baby shampoo counts.
5. Rinse until it stops feeling slippery. Soap film left on the surface ends up on skin.
6. Pat dry with a lint-free cloth, then air-dry for 10 to 15 minutes before it goes into the pouch. A damp massager in a closed pouch is the one outcome this page exists to prevent.

Does the material matter? Silicone vs TPE

Yes: not every MyMuse massager is silicone. Groove+, Breeze, Flick, Pulse, Dive+, Link+ and Loop+ are silicone with a motor inside: tap-and-soap wash up to their rating, full air-dry, pouch. Edge, Grip and Jack Pro are body-safe TPE, which is softer and less dense than silicone, so it asks for a full wash, inside-out for Grip and Jack Pro, and a complete dry, which is what all three product pages say.

Breeze's page adds "Store in its custom suede pouch to keep dust free"; one Flick reviewer found the tongue "a little difficult" to dry, so give it the full 15 minutes. How do I clean a TPE stroker like Edge, Grip or Jack Pro?

Grip and Jack Pro: turn them inside out, wash with warm water and mild soap, and let them air-dry completely before they go back in the pouch. Edge: rinse with gentle soap and water before and after each use, let it dry, then put the protective caps on. All three product pages carry the same warning: no alcohol, gasoline or acetone cleaners.

The inside-out step is the whole trick, because the inner surface is the one that touched you. Swapnajit s. on Grip: "the material gives you a pretty accurate feeling. although washing it properly is a hassle sometimes." Grip and Jack Pro have no motor, so the only thing that can go wrong is skipping the dry.

Edge is the odd one out: a TPE sleeve around a motor unit. Prashant A. wrote that "while cleaning the silicone came out with the vibrator." The sleeve is TPE, not silicone, the mix-up this section exists to clear up, and Edge's care line never asks you to take it off, so rinse it as one piece.

Which lube goes with silicone and TPE?

Water-based, for both. The stroker pages say silicone or oil-based lubes "can damage the product". Sexual Health Oxfordshire (NHS) gives the reason: water-based lubes are safe with every intimate device, while silicone and some oil-based lubes can degrade silicone and realistic-feel materials over time ("realistic-feel" is TPE). Can I use Dettol, hand sanitiser, alcohol or antibacterial soap?

No, no, no, and you do not need to. The product pages, read on 03 Oct 2026, settle it: the three stroker pages ban alcohol, gasoline and acetone by name, and no page mentions bleach, boiling, a dishwasher, a UV box, cornstarch or a "toy cleaner".

• Dettol, Savlon, bleach, hydrogen peroxide, antibacterial sprays: no. They are disinfectants, which the CDC says never go on skin, and residue on a massager ends up on skin. No MyMuse product page allows a bleach soak.
• Hand sanitiser, rubbing alcohol, acetone, gasoline: no. Alcohol, gasoline and acetone are on every stroker page's banned list. With no soap to hand, a warm-water rinse now and a proper wash later beats sanitiser.
• Antibacterial soap: not needed. The triclosan kind adds nothing a mild soap does not; cleaning alone removes most harmful bacteria and viruses from a surface.
• Toothpaste: no. It is not a soap, and the rule is soap.
• Boiling and the dishwasher: never for anything with a motor or a sealed battery, which is every motorised MyMuse massager. The motor-free strokers ask for warm water, not boiling.
• UV boxes and "toy cleaners": no product page asks for either, and MyMuse does not sell a cleaner. Soap is the product.

How do I store a personal massager discreetly at home?

Pouch first, drawer second. Most MyMuse massagers ship with a suede storage pouch (Pulse's and Breeze's box lists say so; Flick and Grip come with a travel pouch), and the pouch is the storage: it keeps dust off and stops surfaces rubbing, so keep it apart from other silicone or TPE items. Dry it, pouch it, keep the pouch out of the bathroom.
